All In on Mindset: The Poker Mindset Book Every Player Needs

All In on Mindset: A Poker Player’s Guide to Thriving Through Adversity

“Mindset is getting more important than ever in poker, because the edges are getting smaller and smaller.” (Benjamin “Bencb” Rolle)

In poker, the biggest obstacles to success are not external—they are our own anger, fear, impatience, ego, and lack of self-awareness. My new poker mindset book, All In on Mindset, will provide you with the principles to become a calm, centered player, consistently bring your A-game, and maintain the passion and motivation necessary to thrive.

10 years ago, my life took a turn that I never expected.

I was only 21 years old, when I was diagnosed with cancer. The strange part? I was in great physical shape. I had run a marathon just two days before my surgery. Yet, the biopsy from a swollen node on my face confirmed what I never thought I’d face so young: lymphoma.

The experience was terrifying. Facing death at such a young age is surreal, but looking back, I’m incredibly proud of how my younger self handled it. I stayed positive in the face of uncertainty. When I walked out of the hospital with the diagnosis, a friend was waiting for me. I remember telling him, “I have good news and bad news. The bad news is I have cancer. The good news is I’m going to be a cancer survivor.” I hate bragging, but 21-year-old me was a legend for handling it with so much optimism.

In December 2014, after enduring months of grueling treatments, I finally reached the end of my cancer battle. I was lying in a hospital bed, still weak but filled with a strange clarity. In that room, there was a small dream chart I’d created, a collage of images that symbolized the life I wanted to live once I made it out of there. One of the images was a book—a symbol of my dream to share my journey and the lessons I had learned along the way.

That picture became a promise to myself: I will write a book one day. A book that would be more than just words on a page; it would be a guide for others, a way to help people face their own challenges and come out stronger on the other side. For years, that idea sat quietly in the back of my mind, waiting for the right moment.

Now, with a decade of life since my last treatment, I know it’s time. Time to honor that promise. Time to reflect on everything that poker, life, and surviving cancer have taught me about resilience, mindset, and chasing what truly matters. This book is the culmination of that journey, a way to pay forward the insights and strength I’ve gained.

Poker has taught me a lot, but cancer taught me the most important lesson of all: life is a limited resource, and every day is a chance to do something that makes you feel fully alive. I hope these pages can be that spark for you.
